Photography has always been my passion since I was a teenager. I started with the Pentax Spotmatic and Minolta XD-7 back in the early 1970s and 1980s photographing people, flowers and scenery. When the film camera was fading out with the introduction of the digital camera, I stopped taking photos mainly due to the unacceptable quality of the digital sensor at the time.
In 2009 when I tried out the Pentax K7 with DA* 16-50mm f2.8 and DA* 60-250mm f4, I was impressed with the image quality of the new sensors. I ended up purchasing this Pentax equipment and then I added the K5, DA* 55mm f1.4, DA*300mm f4 into my collection. One spring day in 2012, I was invited to go photograph a Common Kingfisher with my friend. So, I went out and purchased a Sigma 150-500mm f6.3 for this occasion, mainly because of the price and the availability for the Pentax mount. The challenge of getting a decent photo of this beautiful creature had me hooked on bird photography. At first, I would be quite satisfied with a good perching shot then I progressed to attempting to catch it diving for fish. Gradually, like all bird photographers, I have been constantly upgrading equipment and improving my shooting skill, which is quite different from shooting static subjects. For my equipment, I had gone through many Pentax, Sigma and Nikon cameras and lens. Today I am mainly shooting with Nikon equipment.
Very infrequently I travel to other places for birding trips. I had been in the United States, China, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Costa Rica and Ecuador, but most of my photography is undertaken close to where I live. This meant Hong Kong till spring 2014 and Southern Ontario, Canada since then. To indulge my passion in wildlife photography I built this website to share my experience and photos with others who have the same passion.
