Although I had photographed this owl in captivity before, this is the first time I saw it in the wild. So, I count it as a lifer.
It is a resident breeder throughout the tropical regions of South America from northern Argentina to southern Mexico. It feeds primarily on vertebrates up to the size of opossums, rabbits, and skunks. It is the largest tropical American owl. Length: 41-52 cm Wingspan: 76-91 cm Lifespan: up to 35 years
